ヴォイヴォド は1981年の結成された、カナダ出身のヘヴィメタル・バンド。
音楽スタイルは、1980年代初頭より数回変化した。スピードメタルバンドとしてスタートしたVoivodは、プログレッシブメタルとスラッシュメタルのミックスを追加して、独自のメタルスタイルを確立した。
ヴォイヴォドは、 Sacrifice、Razor、Annihilatorとともに、「ビッグ4」のカナダのスラッシュメタルバンドの1つ。
これは彼らの15枚目のスタジオアルバムで2022年2月にリリースされた。
基本的にはプログレッシブメタルでテクニカルスラッシュの要素が追加されたサウンド。Voivodは歴史のあるバンドで、さらに音楽性が変化しているバンドなので、解釈が難しい。評価の仕方が古参のファンと、若い世代の音楽ファンとは違ってくるからだ。ヴォイヴォドに求められる音楽性、期待するものが何なのか。
今作はプログレッシブロック寄りで、疾走するパートもありスラッシュメタルの要素が感じられ、楽曲は複雑で、変拍子が多い。
個人的に、テクニカルであるし、リズムチェンジもあるのでメリハリが効いており、さすがと思わせる部分が多く、すごいと感じた。ただ聴き易いタイプのものではないと感じた。
ただそこにヴォイヴォドが変化し続ける理由があるかもしれない。彼らが新しいものに挑戦し進化し続けようとする姿勢は素晴らしい。
彼らがいかにクリエイティブであるかは理解できる。

Voivod is a heavy metal band from Canada, formed in 1981.
Musical style has changed several times since the early 1980s. Voivod, which started as a speed metal band, established its own metal style by adding a mix of progressive metal and thrash metal.
Voivod is one of the Big 4 Canadian thrash metal bands. Other bands are Sacrifice, Razor and Annihilator.
This is their 15th studio album, released in February 2022.
It’s basically a progressive metal sound with the addition of a technical slash element. Voivod is a band with a long history, and it is difficult to explain because it is a band whose musicality is changing. This is because the evaluation method is different between old fans and young music fans. What is the musicality that listeners expect from Voivod?
This work is closer to progressive rock, there is a part called fast, you can feel the element of thrash metal, the music is complicated, and there are many irregular time signatures.
Personally, I felt that it was technical and there were rhythm changes, so it was comfortable and there were many parts that made me think it was amazing. However, it is not an easy-to-listen type.
But there may be a reason why Voivod keeps changing. Their attitude to challenge new things and keep evolving is wonderful.
I can understand how creative they are.
