リリアン・アクス は、アメリカのハードロック・バンド。
1983年にギタリストのスティーブ・ブレイズを中心に結成された
ベーシストのマイケル・マックス・ダービーも結成当時からのオリジナルメンバー。
バンド名の由来は、ブレイズが映画「クリープショー」を見て、ブライドメイドのドレスを着た骸骨が,、窓に浮かんでいる映画のシーンに触発された。そのとき「リリアン」という名前は、「不気味な響きの老婦人の名前」として、バンド名を完成させるためアクス（Axe）は斧という言葉が浮かび上がった。
1988年、『Lillian Axe』でデビュー。その後4thアルバム『Psychoschizophrenia』(1993年)までリリースするが1995年に解散する。
1999年、ブレイズは未発表のデモとアルバムのアウトテイクからなる5thアルバム『Fields of Yesterday』をリリース。
以後メンバーの入れ替わりもありながら、コンスタントにアルバムをリリース。

これは彼らの10枚目のスタジオアルバムで2022年9月にリリースされた。
リリアン・アクス。このバンド名はほんと素晴らしくて、インパクトがあって、他のバンド名で見つからなくて、どういう意味か知りたくなる。バンド設立者のスティーブ・ブレイズはすごいと思う。いわゆる80年代のヘアメタル（後半）に代表とされるバンド。
このアルバムについて、ブレイズは最初から最後まで独りで、何物にも邪魔されない状態で聴いてほしいという。独立した16曲を集めた作品じゃないとのこと。
これについてはうなずける。
このアルバムは、リリアン・アクスにとってのプログレッシブアルバムのようなものであり、彼ら独特のハードロックスタイルをより進化させた形であると言える。WarrantやRattやDanger Dangerというより、Dream TheaterやCircus MaximusやQueensrÿcheやThresholdをイメージしたほうがいい。
一枚を通して聴くことで彼らの意図が理解できるし、アルバムにおける曲の配置や、バランス、彼らの現在のスタイルをより良い形で表現されていると感じられる。
過去の作品において彼らのメロディセンスや、エンターテイメント性の評価の高さは証明されていて、それらと比較されるわけだが、恐らくそれ以上の結果を導きだした。
今もなお第一線でで活躍する老舗のベテランバンドの底力を見せつけられたような感覚だ。リリアン・アクスに全てのアルバムの中でも聴くべきアルバムのうちの一つであると言える。

Lillian Axe is an American hard rock band.
Originally formed in 1983, the group is still active, though only the guitarist Steve Blaze and bassist Michael Max Darby remain from the original line-up.
The band’s name was inspired by a scene in the movie where Steve Blaze watches the movie “Creepshow” and a skeleton in a bridesmaid’s dress floats in the window. The name “Lillian” came to mind as a “creepy sounding, old lady name” along with the word Axe to complete the name.
They debuted in 1988 with “Lillian Axe”. After that, they released up to the 4th album “Psychoschizophrenia” (1993), but disbanded in 1995.
In 1999, Lillian Axe released Fields of Yesterday, consisting of unreleased demos and album outtakes.
Albums are released constantly, even though the members are replaced.

Lillian Axe. This band name is so awesome and impactful that you can’t find it in any other band name and want to know what it means. I think band founder Steve Blaze is great. A band representative of the so-called 80’s hair metal (late).
Steve Blaze wants you to listen to the album from start to finish alone and uninterrupted. It is not a work that collects 16 independent songs.
I can agree with him on this.
This album is like a progressive album for Lillian Axe, a further evolution of their unique hard rock style. You should think of Dream Theater, Circus Maximus, Queensrÿche and Threshold rather than Warrant, Ratt and Danger Danger.
Listening through the album gives you an idea of their intentions, and it feels like a better representation of the album’s placement, balance, and their current style.
Their melody sense and high entertainment value have been proven in past works, and although it is compared with them, it probably led to more results.
You will appreciate the splendor of a long-established veteran band that is still active on the front lines. Lillian Axe is one of the albums you should listen to among all the albums.
