2015年にデンマークで結成されたプログレッシブ・メロディックデスメタル/パワー・メタル・バンド。
IOTUNN とは、古ノルド語で “巨人” を意味する言葉。
Jesper Gräs（ギター）Bjørn Wind Andersen（ドラム）、Jens Nicolai Gräs（ギター）（ Jesper Gräsの兄）に、2018年に Jón Aldaráがボーカルに、 Eskil Rask がベースで加入。
2016年にデモをリリース後、2021年2月ににデビューアルバムをリリース。
彼らのことを知ったのは、2021年リリースだったのがきっかけだ。
グループ名すら知らず、メタルという事だけを知って聴いた。何の知識もなく聴くと期待がないことで、より良く聴こえることはあるが、まず、オープニングトラックからガツンとやられた。冒頭の2分でこれは良い作品かも・・・と思って聴いていると、予想通りの良い仕上がりだった。
メロディックデスメタルに期待されるキャッチーなメロディは十分にあり、プログレッシブ的なテクニカル要素が、適度に含まれそれらのバランスは完璧。
クリーンボーカルとデスボーカルの使い分け方、配置の仕方は素晴らしく、クリーンボーカルの時のJón Aldaráの歌唱がエモーショナルで楽曲全体がより魅力的に、一層良く聴こえる。
Gräs兄弟によるギターバトルは、お互い鼓舞しあうような形でのプレイであり、テクニカルで、メロディックで聴きごたえがある。
デビューアルバムでこのクオリティ。今後が楽しみなバンドだ！

Progressive melodic death metal / power metal band formed in Denmark in 2015.
IOTUNN is an old Nordic word that means “giant”.
Jesper Gräs (guitar) Bjørn Wind Andersen (drum), Jens Nicolai Gräs (guitar) (brother of Jesper Gräs), Jón Aldará on vocals and Eskil Rask on bass in 2018.
After releasing the demo in 2016, the debut album was released in February 2021.
I got to know them when it was released in 2021.
I didn’t even know the name of the group, I just knew that it was metal and listened to it. It may sound better because there is no expectation to listen without any knowledge, but first of all, I was impressed by the opening track. In the first two minutes, I thought that this might be a good work, and when I listened to it, the result was as good as I expected.
There are plenty of catchy melodies expected of melodic deathmetal, with the proper inclusion of progressive technical elements and a perfect balance between them.
The way to use and arrange clean vocals and death vocals is wonderful, and the singing of Jón Aldará, a clean vocal, is emotional and makes the whole song more attractive.
Guitar battles by the Gräs brothers are inspiring, technical and melodic.
This quality on the debut album. I’m looking forward to the future!
